Healthy (Vegan) Hot Cocoa
A delicious superfood hot cocoa made with just a couple wholesome ingredients.
Ingredients
- 1 cup Brazil Nut Milk, Oat Milk or Almond Milk (really whatever choice milk you want, noting the base will affect the caloric density and, to an extent, the richness of your drink)
- 2.5 tbsp Organic Cacao Powder
- 2 tsp Granulated Monk Fruit or Organic Cane Sugar or to desired sweetness (I start with less and add as needed. Feel free to sub for Coconut Sugar or other alternative)
- Single or Double Dash of Cayenne optional, as desired
- 1-2 Dashes of Nutmeg optional
- Gentle Dash of Cinnamon optional
The Optional Extras
- Peppermint Stick
- Marshmallows
- Chili or Orange Zest
- Vanilla Bean
- Extracts of Vanilla or Almond
- Coffee
- Caramel, Butterscotch or Dulce de Leche
- Maple
- More Chocolate
Instructions
- Place all ingredients in blender and blend until mixture warms, scraping down if necessary. If keeping it raw, you can place your hands on either side of the blender where the liquid is making its rounds to casually monitor the temperature, using the blender to warm the mix. Otherwise, you can gently heat it in a pot on the stove.
- When desired temperature is attained, pour into a small mug and prepare to indulge.
Notes
*This is such a delicious treat that lends something classic yet unexpected to a healthy diet.
You can keep it “raw” or gently heat your base in a sauce pan prior to mixing everything in. {Just be careful not to scorch it, which is easy to do.}
I personally love making it Mayan. The cayenne gives you the warming effect without making it too spicy; unless, of course, you want it spicy then by all means…hit with some more!
