Vanilla Flax Mylk

Flax seeds are a great source of omega 3’s, lignans and fiber.  There’s some evidence it may help reduce your risk of heart disease, cancer, stroke, and diabetes.

I totally recommend using the whole seed ground and added to recipes (it actually makes a great egg substitute in breads and can be added to smoothies as well.)

This flax milk can serve as a good base for smoothies.  I will warn you that the consistency is not quite that of most other milk subs, which may be off-putting for some (again, use it for smoothies).  Still, you may be one of those like me that totally has no problem drinking this straight.  Either way, here’s drinking to your health.

Ingredients

¼ cup Flax Seeds

1 tsp Vanilla Extract

1 tsp Stevia

Tiny Pinch of Salt

Instructions

Place flax seeds in a one quart mason jar and fill to the mouth (not to the top) with water.  Set aside 1 hour.

Pour seeds and water into blender and liquefy so flax is well broken down.

Strain through a nut milk bag in a large bowl or large measuring cup.  Mix in vanilla and stevia and taste to adjust.

Store in a sealed jar in the refrigerator.  Use within 3-5 days.  Shake before pouring.
